I loved looking at things in my microscope as a child.  Robert Rock Belliveau is a retired pathologist who photographs fruits and vegetables with a polarizing microscope. His work was recently featured in Science magazine and were among the National Geographic Best Science Photos of 2011.  More info and an interview can be found on Smithsonian magazine
